Sweet meat balls

This is a classic recipe that my mother makes every Christmas. It makes a great side dish! Or a perfect addition to a buffet style dinner. 

Ingredients:

  • Meatballs:
  • 2 lbs ground beef.
  • 2 eggs.
  • 1 cup milk.
  • 2 cups bread crumbs.
  • Salt, pepper.
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup ketchup.
  • ¾ cups onions, chopped.
  • 1 cup boiling water.
  • 1 cube OXO beef broth.
  • ½ cup molasses.
  • ¼ cup brown sugar.
  • 2/3 cup vinegar.
  • 2 tablespoons dry mustard.
  • Salt, pepper.
  • Cayenne pepper.

Instructions:

  • Meatballs: 
  • Mix all ingrédients except garlic. 
  • Shape into meat balls (makes about 70 meat balls). 
  • Cook in frying pan with garlic. 
  • Set aside. 
  • Sauce: 
  • Mix all remaining ingrédients in large pot. 
  • Simmer for 20 minutes. 
  • Add meat balls. 
  • Simmer on low for 1 hour.
